The Unspoken
A reclamation of the female emotional landscape through the lens of radical consent.
In our world, women are often granted a very narrow spectrum of acceptable emotion. Be pleasant. Be soft. Be smiling.
But what of the depth? The nature of feeling that is raw, ugly, messy, and profound? What of the rage that burns boundaries, or the grief that hollows out the chest?
Emotional Consent is a photographic method. It mashes up the structured safety of the Wheel of Consent with the chaotic beauty of the Emotions Wheel.
Here, the camera is not a tool of objectification, but a container. A witness. We negotiate exactly how you want to be seen, and exactly how deep you are willing to go.
About The Director
As a young man, I was often overwhelmed by emotions. I learned, as many men do, to protect others from my storm—to keep it locked away so that I would not get hurt, or worse, hurt others. This willful stunting of my emotional intelligence had repercussions that would affect every woman I related to.
It took a resetting of my life and many tear-filled nights to recognize my incompetence in, fear of, and angry rejection of my authentic emotions. It was through the help of wise women like Caralilly Saso and Rose Leopold who held space for my feminine essence to feel safe in expressing my emotions.
In turn, my masculine energy was given a domain and sacred duty: to safely contain those feelings while validating and serving my true authentic self. It is from this inner alchemical process that Emotional Consent was born.
Part of my sacred purpose here on earth is to hold space for the emotions of women. Not just the pretty and acceptable ones, but the emotions most scared boys don't have the capacity for. Through radical acceptance, true self-love is born.
